When families reach a breaking point, the difference between long-term recovery and deeper crisis often comes down to one thing: how quickly the right support arrives. At Ormiston Families, our early intervention teams work directly in schools, homes, and communities across the East of England to ensure no family falls through the cracks.
Early intervention is not simply about responding to problems — it is about building resilience before those problems take hold. Research consistently shows that children who receive support in their first five years have significantly better outcomes in education, mental health, and long-term employment.
What does early intervention look like in practice?
Our practitioners work alongside families dealing with domestic abuse, financial hardship, bereavement, and parental mental health challenges. Rather than offering a single solution, we take a whole-family approach — addressing the interconnected pressures that can push families to crisis.
In 2024, our early help teams supported over 1,200 families across Suffolk and Norfolk. Of those, 78% reported feeling better equipped to manage challenges independently within six months of completing our programme.
“I didn’t think anyone could help us. Within three weeks of meeting our Ormiston support worker, we had a plan, and for the first time in years I felt like we were moving forward.” — Parent, Suffolk
