Robert's initial career spanned over ten years in marketing and sales in major FMCG (Fast-moving consumer goods) organisations, culminating in senior international roles.
Robert moved into general management in the early 1990's and was managing director of a number of service sector businesses in healthcare and security and latterly of divisions of organisations providing outsourced support services to the UK public and private sectors.
Robert became a headhunter in 2004 and specialises in the recruitment of board and senior executive roles in the infrastructure, support services and defence sectors.
Robert has an MA (joint honours in modern history and modern languages) from Oxford University. In addition to his position as a trustee of Ormiston Families he is a school governor.
Brian is a portfolio non executive director and consultant, following a career in local and regional government. He was the Chief Executive of 2 Scottish local authorities and the East of England Regional Assembly. He has experience as a non executive director of an NHS Foundation Trust, a non executive director of a major housing association group, other charity trustee roles and planning consultancy.
In addition to his Ormiston Families roles his current portfolio includes chairing the Sizewell C Community Forum, sitting on the HS2 Phase 2 Need to Sell Scheme Panel and as a main Board member of Clarion Housing Group, and its subsidiary Housing Association.
Peter Murray OBE is the founder of Ormiston , who wanted to keep the memory of his sister, Fiona Ormiston Murray, alive after her tragic death in 1969. Peter has worked tirelessly with young people and families across the East of England, having been involved in a diverse range of voluntary and charity-based organisations. Peter’s knowledge of the voluntary sector, strategic planning and financial management, have been a real boon for us.
James has worked as a management consultant in the private, public and voluntary sectors, helping organisations to grow sustainably over the medium to long term. He has helped charities for over seven years in the fields of strategic development, partnership setup, support function reviews and innovative use of premises. Currently, he is also a part-time employee at Ormiston Trust.
Julie Spence was Chief Constable of Cambridgeshire Constabulary between December 2005 and September 2010. She was president of the British Association for Women in Policing between 2000 and 2010 and was also the head of the Association of Chief Police Officers business area for citizen focus before her retirement in 2010. She was awarded an OBE in the Queen's 80th birthday honours list.
In March 2013, she kindly agreed to become a trustee of Ormiston Families. Within weeks, she was instrumental in making the charity's Jail & Bail event in Cambridgeshire one of Ormiston's most successful ever, with more than £20,000 raised. Showing a determination and zest that was a hallmark of her career, she then threw herself straight into training for Ormiston's London to Paris Cycle Challenge.
Hannah joined the Ormiston Families board of trustees in early 2014 with over 15 years' experience in corporate, public and third sector audit and accounts. A Chartered Accountant and Member of the Association of Accounting Technicians she has also obtained the ICAEW Diploma in Charity Accounting. Hannah is a Partner at RSM, working closely with many local and national charities, independent schools, academies and further education organisations.
Hannah's experience covers both internal audit and external audit, advising on financial reporting and charity governance. She is the Chair of Resources Committee. In 2016 she completed the 100km Thames Path Challenge to fundraise for Ormiston Families. Hannah is married and lives in North Essex with her husband.
Sarah joins Ormiston with a wide range of skills and expertise. She worked as a teacher in Cambridgeshire for more than 20 years and also serves as a magistrate on the Cambridge bench.
As a mentor at Aylesbury Young Offenders Institutution, Sarah supports young men through the last 5 months of their sentence and the first 4 months after their release.
She is also involved with Alternative to Violence Project (AVP) and is looking to develop courses in conflict resolution in prisons and YOI.
Sarah has also just joined the Independent Monitoring Board, which monitors prison conditions and prisoner’s rights.
Rosie Gutteridge, a journalist and a former Women’s Editor of the Cambridge News, has a long association with the Magistracy. She was appointed to the Bedfordshire Bench in 1979 and has specialised in Family cases for over 30 years, gaining a wide understanding of troubled families and the agencies supporting the Family Courts’ Service.
A former School Governor and member of the Bedfordshire Police Authority, Rosie has more than 40 years’ fundraising experience with a number of charities in both Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.
She was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of Bedfordshire in 2011 and awarded an MBE in the New Years’ Honours List in 2014 for her voluntary and charitable services.
Catherine has worked across health, social care and the third sector since graduating in 1995. She has held operational and strategic positions in a variety of organisations including the Royal College of Psychiatrists, The Kings Fund, Family Action and Voiceability. She is particularly interested in children and families, mental health and domestic violence.
She holds a BA Hons in Theology & Religious Studies from Cambridge University, an MA in Healthcare Ethics and Law from Manchester University and a Post Graduate Certificate in Social Care Leadership from the University of Birmingham.
Catherine is married with two children and lives in Essex.
Simon joins the Ormiston Families with over 35 years' experience as a lawyer. During that time he has focused on advising fast growing companies, particularly those in the technology sector. This work has often required him to assess the risk/reward of a particular transaction and to advise companies on governance issues.
Steve has over 25 years' senior international Human Resources management experience in the manufacturing, logistics, FMCG, entertainment, technology and healthcare sectors within PLC, LTD, JV, public sector and not-for-profit organisations. For the past 14 years he has held Human Resources Director roles in the UK health and social care sector.
Steve is a non-executive director of Oaklea Montessori, a Community Interest Company that provides care and education for disadvantaged children in the Harwich, Manningtree and Colchester areas.
He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development.
