A record year for the Marathon

This year has been quite a remarkable year for Ormiston's marathon runners. Not only have we seen the fastest time achieved by one of our runners but we have also seen a record amount of money raised.

Doug Hutton-Squire ran a fantastic time of 3 hours 23 minutes, beating his personal target of three and a half hours.

Said Doug: "I ran the London Marathon for Ormiston this year because I am aware that many children haven't had the opportunities that I have had. I believe we can make a difference to many children's lives if we all do a little bit, so this is my little bit."

Because of the huge effort put in by all 5 runners an outstanding £12,000 has been raised, all of them raising more than the original £1,000 pledged.

Ormiston's top fundraiser for 2009, Geoff Buchanan, Director at Gressingham Foods and father of four, raised almost £6,000 with the help of his colleagues, family and friends and in doing so has broken all previous records for the amount raised by an individual. Well done Geoff and thanks to everyone at Gressingham!

Our only female runner this year put in a sterling effort and, even with an injury to contend with, came in at just over five and a half hours - well done to Abbe Wyatt and all her supporters at Oval Insurance.

And last but not least Dennis Wills and Gordon Cullum. Dennis was our second fastest runner at 3 hours 36 minutes. This is the second time Dennis has taken part in the London Marathon and he enjoyed it so much that he has asked if he can do it again next year - we think the adrenaline must have gone to his head!

Gordon, also a seasoned runner, had a great day and has enjoyed his fundraising so much that he has offered to organise a musical event for Ormiston in the summer so watch this space for details of his forthcoming event.

Finally, a huge thank you from everyone at Ormiston to all our runners - they have truly made it a great marathon year.
