Peter Murray, founder of Ormiston Children & Families Trust, has been
awarded an OBE in the Queen's New Year's Honours 2010, for his services to
children and families.
Ormiston's Chief Executive, Geoffrey Prescott, congratulated Peter on the
award, "Many congratulations to Peter for his OBE, recognising his
excellent work for children and young people over the last 40 years. Since
it's creation Ormiston has helped hundreds of thousands of children and
their families, facing challenging times in their lives. This OBE is a
fitting achievement and reward for decades of dedicated service to
children and families. We are immensely grateful to Peter for establishing
Ormiston and for his active and passionate commitment to his work as a
Trustee over so many years."
Peter Murray founded Ormiston in memory of his sister, Fiona Ormiston Murray, who was tragically killed on her honeymoon in 1969. He has spent his entire adult life working tirelessly to improve the lives of some of the most challenged children and families in the East of England. Ormiston is now the biggest children's charity in the East of England, helping tens of thousands of children and their families every year.
