HMP Bedford is a male prison situated in the centre of the town. Ormiston manages the visitors centre (see below) and provides the following support and services within the prison:

 

  • children's visits
  • an accredited parenting course for fathers within the prison
  • family liaison work
  • storybook dads -  recording CDs for children to hear their dads read them a bedtime story
  • children and young persons community worker to assist children who have a parent or significant family member in prison

In the Visitors Centre we can provide:

  • snacks and drinks (there is a larger tea bar in the visits room)
  • toilet facilities (including facilities for the disabled and baby changing)
  • information on support services, health issues, benefits and travel
  • a play area for children
  • a quiet meeting room for a private chat or outside agency information and training

Visitors Centre:

The Visitors Centre is open from:

  • 12.30 - 4.30 Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday
  • 10.15 to 11.30 on Wednesday for Children's Visits.

There is wheelchair access to the centre and the prison.
