Our mission & vision – Why does Ormiston exist?
Ormiston exists for a good reason. We have an imperative to act where others cannot or will not, to overcome the unfairness, injustice and disadvantage which affects children and young people in our society.
Our vision is of a society where all children and young people have choices to realise their full potential and to achieve happiness and fulfilment, free from prejudice, isolation and stigma.
Our mission is to identify the most challenged children and young people and enable them to have choices to realise a happy and fulfilling future.
We aim to find and support the children, young people and families in our society who need extra help and support. Often their needs are overlooked. Our ambition is to provide innovative help for them all.
We specialise in work which challenges prejudices against children and young people because of their race, religion, nationality, sexuality, gender and disability and we help these children and young people to overcome the barriers of prejudice.
We work closely with families affected by crime – the children of prisoners, young victims of crime, young offenders, re-offenders and young people at risk of offending.
We work towards a more inclusive society, supporting children and young people affected by abuse, poverty, bullying, teenage pregnancy, domestic violence, or coping with difficult family circumstances such as caring for a parent with disabilities or drug or alcohol abuse.
Each child, young person, parent or family we work with is treated as an individual and we shape the work we do around their needs, helping them to make a difference to their lives for the better.
