About us

Ormiston was founded by the Murray family following the tragic death of Fiona Ormiston Murray on her honeymoon in 1969. They wanted to create a lasting memorial to a woman who loved children but sadly denied the chance to have her own.

Today Ormiston is the biggest children’s charity in the East of England. We work to improve the wellbeing of children, young people and their families, whatever their circumstances. Last year we helped over 100,000 children and their families. We currently have over 40 community and prison-based projects across seven counties, and we work in schools, children’s centres and with families in their homes to give them the support they need. Our work is funded by local and national government contracts as well as generous support from trusts, foundations, other charities and individual donors.

We also receive some income towards our infrastructure and more innovative work from the Ormiston Trust, a grant-making trust established by the Murray family. The Ormiston Trust also supports Ormiston Academies Trust. You can find out more about the Ormiston Trust on their own website by clicking here.
